| Professional Exchange : Exchange Conditions of IFMSA-Chile(Chile) | |
| Level of studies | Clinical students |
| Type of Clerkship | Only clinical clerkships. |
| Languages | Spanish (we need a recent certificate attached with the AF). The student should probe his/her profiency of the language in order to go to Internal Medicine, Psyquiatrics, Gynaecology. If this is insufficient the clerkship can be cancelled. English mainly in surgical deparments. We need to check at the Univerities if a non spanish-speaker could attend the clerkship. In this last case english is a must. |
| Duration of Clerkship | 4 weeks. Longer periods can be arranged only if 2 or more AFs are sent |
| Working Conditions | 4-8 hours per day, from Monday to Friday, but it depends on the Hospital and department; sometimes is necessary to do night shifts.
The student will be guided by a tutor and should assist to the Hospital for 4 weeks in order to get a certificate. The student should bring stethoscope and white coat. |
| Disciplines | Surgery, internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics. The student can apply for subspecialties of each discipline.
The student must have approved the core courses in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery or gynaecology, depending of the department where the student plans to attend. Chile is NOT a tropical country. We don't have tropical medicine rotations. STUDENT MUST FILL THE HANDBOOK AND THE EVALUATION FORM BY THE END OF HER/HIS CLERKSHIP |
| Periods & Towns | Santiago, Concepcion, Coquimbo, Valdivia, Osorno.
Every month except February. In January though we have just a few places, so if the student wants to come in February we need to have the documents at least 4-5 five months earlier. Calendar months only (from 1st to 31st). We have limited places for each month so please send your AFs soon. o Santiago - Universidad de Chile: (UCH) - Universidad Catolica (PUC)The student will be asked to fill an online application in www.puc.cl/drai before she/he receive the Card of Acceptance - Universidad de Santiago (USACH) - Universidad Nacional Andres Bello (UNAB) - Universidad Mayor: From March to November (Only last year students, Internal medicine and paediatrics, their practice is in a rural location) - Universidad del Desarrollo o Concepcion - Universidad Catolica de la Santisima Concepcion - Universidad San Sebastian de Concepcion o Vina del Mar - Universidad Nacional Andres Bello sede Vina (Internal Medicine, Urology, Dermatology, Othorrinolaringology only) o Valparaiso - Universidad de Valparaiso (UV) o Coquimbo - Universidad Catolica del Norte o Valdivia just 4 places per year - Universidad Austral de Chile o Osorno - Univerisdad Austral de Chile |
| Application documents & deadline | We need to have the AF and ALL the documents 3 months in advance, the AFs received after this deadline won't be accepted.
For exchanges during march, all the documents must be recieved by the end of October. For exchanges during April and May, all the documents must be recieved by the end of November. Exchange after June must send their documents by the March Meeting The student has to enclose with the AF (All the documents MUST be translated into spanish or english): o 2 photos o Language certificate of spanish, please indicate the level of knowledge. We need it with the AF, otherwise we won't be able to guarantee the placement of the student. Non spanish-speakers need to send their English certificate o Letter of motivation (FORMAL, it will be sent to the Faculty authorities). MUST BE IN SPANISH. o Proof of enrollment in a medical Faculty during the clerkship (an official letter from the student’s University must be sent confirming that the student is a current medical student during the period of the clerkship). o Curriculum Vitae o Transcript listing courses the student have completed o Letter of recomendation from the Dean. o Proof of Hepatitis B vaccination. o Health insurance certificate o Some universities may need extra documents or a special application form. The NEO or LEO will contact you. *The documents can be sent scanned on a CD or by e-mail. In this case the student should bring the original documents (only the formal ones -academic, vaccine, insurance). |

| Insurance | Health insurance.

| Board & Lodging | Lodging: Host Family, if you're coming in peak season (June until September) you might be staying at student's apartment.
Board: The student will stay in a host family, so the student will be part of his/her family. The student will bring lunch to the hospital or eat at the hospital's cafeteria. For students staying at the apartments they will be provided by one hot meal per day attending the hospital. Unilateral fee: 300 Euros |
| Social Program | Social programs will be arranged by the Local Comittee depending of their time and availability. Special social program in our winter months: June, July and August and also during our summer months especially in January.
There are a plenty of things you can do in Chile!!! |
| Substitutions | Same gender, period and department. This must be informed at least 8 weeks before the clerkship begins. |
| Cancellations | We need to know it at least 4 weeks in advance. The NEO or the student must send an official letter explaining the reasons of the cancellation. |
| Visas | The following countries do NOT require visa:
Germany, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgique, Bolivia, Brasil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Espana, USA, Finland,France, Greece, Guatemala, Netherlands, Honduras, Hungary, Indonesia, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malasia, Marruecos Mexico Nicaragua Norway, New Zealand, Panama Paraguay Peru, Poland, Portugal, UK, Czech Rep., Dominican Rep, Singapur, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay, Venezuela Please contact your local embassy or Ministry of External Affairs. |
| Special remarks | The student will have board and lodging only between the dates specified in the CA.
All documents must be translated into English or Spanish IN ORDER TO GET CERTIFICATE THE STUDENT MUST FILL THE EVALUATION FORM AND ALSO FILL THE HANDBOOK If the LC receives complains from the Hospital or the family that is hosting the student, the clerkship will be cancelled. In order to get the IFMSA certificate, the student MUST attend 4 weeks to the hospital. |
