  Professional Exchange : Exchange Conditions of AMSA(Austria)
Level of studies Clinical but NOT graduated students
Type of Clerkship Clinical.
Pre-clinical only possible in Graz.
Languages German, English

Departments, which require German-speaking students:

Vienna:
- Endocrinology
- Gastroenterology
- Nephrology
- Rheumatolgy
- Paediatrics
- Psychiatry

Departments, which are NOT available:
exotic departments like Acupuncture, Alternative Medicine, Family Medicine, etc.
Duration of Clerkship 4 weeks
Working Conditions 5-8 hours a day, 5 days a week
(night shifts and weekend shifts are usually possible)

Please bring your own stethoscope with you!
White coat or other hospital clothes will be provided at the hospital. You will receive srubs if you are in the OR, if you are not in the OR you just need casual clothes and the white coat. Special shoes are not required.
Disciplines Graz, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Vienna: all clinical fields
Pre-clinical: Anatomy (only possible in Graz)
Periods & Towns Towns: Graz, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Vienna

Periods:
- Graz: July, August, September
- Innsbruck: July, August, September
- Salzburg: July, August, September
- Vienna: whole year except JUNE

Not all students can go to Vienna!
So it is important to prioritize 3 local committees (not only one!)

We can ONLY accept 90 students in July and 90 in August (40 in Vienna, the rest in the other cities)!
In the rest of the year often only 1 or 2 LCs will accept students each month.
Please be aware of that we only have a small capacity of lodging and departments in Vienna outside the summer months.

Notice that we accept the students as soon as we get the AFs. The earliest AFs will receive the desired period of time!

!All our clerkships start on the 1st MONDAY in the month!
We cannot accept students who want to stay from the middle of one month to the middle of the next month!!!

July: clerkships start on July 6th
August: clerkships start on August 3th
September: clerkships start on August 31st
Application documents & deadline 1- 2 passport photographs
2- Letter of recommendation or Proof of enrollment
3- Copy of passport (only non EU-countries)
4- Language certificate
5- Negative proof of Mendel-Mantoux / TBC (mandatory in Graz) OR chest X-ray (both in German or English)
6- Proof of a valid health insurance (together with a list in German or English which states what the insurance covers, e.g. illness, accidents, home transport, up to which amount,...)

Deadline:
March Meeting for July- and August-exchange-students.
3 months prior to the start of the practical training for the other students!

Insurance Students must have a valid health insurance! If they don't have one upon arrival they have the possibility to arrange one with the help of the local comittee (cost ~70 EUR).
Pocket Money no pocket money
Board & Lodging Free on bilateral basis.
Unilateral incomings have to pay 360 EUR with accommodation and 140 EUR without accommodation latest upon arrival.

Lodging in a student dormitory in July, August and September (own towels and own bed sheets needed!) or in student flats.
Meals at the hospital.
Social Program Organised by the Local Committees in cooperation with AIESEC and IAESTE.

In July, August & September Social Program will be fully provided (as we are having holidays from university)!
Throughout the year(oct-may) we will try to provide the incoming students with Social Program, but we cannot guarantee it (as we are having exams then).
Substitutions The substitute has to overtake the same period, the same department and the same city!!!
Please inform us about the substitution as soon as possible (at least four weeks before the clerkship is to begin) and send the documents (Application Form, Substitution Form & application documents) to the NEO attached as a scanned copy to an e-mail to neo@amsa.at!
Cancellations Please inform us as soon as possible!!!

IMPORTANT: apply for a tourist-visa!
Special remarks Students have to find the way to the dormitory on their own. Details will be provided with a detailed information-mail for incomings.

Don't forget the towels and bed sheets as they will not be provided from the dormitory (standard sheets for standard single beds).
