Professional Exchange : Exchange Conditions of PorMSIC(Portugal)
Level of studies	Clinical Students.
Type of Clerkship	Clinical clerkships only.
Languages	ENGLISH or PORTUGUESE. The student must have a good knowledge of one of these languages in order to carry out his/her clerkship.
Duration of Clerkship	4 weeks.
Working Conditions	Depending on the local committee and the department at the hospital (usually about 5-6 hours a day). At least 80% IS REQUIRED in order to obtain the SCOPE Certificate.
Disciplines	Almost all clinical fields are available, except: Psychiatry, Emergency room, Acupuncture and Tropical Medicine. Lisboa FML - Emergency Medicine, Oncology and Gynecology are not available. Students applying for Psychiatry MUST speak fluent Portuguese. Porto ICBAS: Plastic surgery is not available. Braga: Oral and maxillofacial surgery, vascular surgery, Oncology ARE NOT available. Covilha: ONLY AVAILABLE - Paediatrics, Pulmonary, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine - General, Radiology, Plastic Surgery, Surgery - General, Neurology and Gynaecology/Obstetrics Placement in the desired field is not always possible, so make sure you fill out the 4 OPTIONS. If you fill out one choice only, this DOES NOT mean that you will be placed in that department, but that you AGREE to any department, if the department you choose is not available.
Periods & Towns	There are 7 Medical Schools in Portugal. Please pay attention to periods and units: LISBOA - August – only calendar month (from 1st to 31st August) -- FCML: 20 units -- FML: 35 units PORTO - August – only calendar month (from 1st to 31st August) -- FMUP: 30 units -- ICBAS: 26 units COVILHA - July - only calendar month (from 1st to 31st July) -- FCSUBI: 12 units COIMBRA – September - only calendar month (from 1st to 30th September) -- FMUC: 33 units BRAGA - 20 July to 20 August -- ECSUM: 15 units Please fill out all THREE choices on the AF! If you fill out one choice only, this means that you agree to any LC if the one you choose is not available.
Application documents & deadline	Documents: - Electronic-Application Form - 1 passport photo - Card of Identification (Passport or Identity card) - Language Certificate for Portuguese or English - Vaccination documents (mainly Hepatitis B) - Letter of Motivation (one for each Department) - Proof of enrolment ALL documents MUST BE delivered on digital format either by e-mail or CD-ROM (except the passport photo). AF deadline: March GA or 3 months before the beginning of the clerkship CA deadline: 6 weeks before the beginning of the clerkship CC deadline: At least 3 weeks before the beginning of the clerkship (otherwise we cannot guarantee you the clerkship)

Insurance	Health insurance is required and must be arranged by the student. It must be sent with the CC or handing to LEO when arriving.
Pocket Money	None
Board & Lodging	Free on bilateral agreement. 350 € for unilateral units. The student will be asked to pay a bail for his lodging, which will be returned if the room doesn’t suffer any damage. Lisboa FML, Lisboa FCML, Porto ICBAS, Porto FMUP and Braga - board only once a day. Lodging unavailable outside calendar month; impossible for heterossexual couples to share same student dorm rooms.
Social Program	Provided by and available in all Local Committees in the folloowing periods: July - Covilha; 20 July-20 August - Braga August - Porto and Lisboa September - Coimbra There is a Joint Social Program between Lisboa, Porto and Braga.
Substitutions	Must be reported at least 4 WEEKS before the beginning of the clerkship. Substitute must be from the SAME SEX and choose SAME PERIOD, CITY and DEPARTMENT. ALL CHANGES MUST BE REPORTED TO THE NEO AND TO THE LEO!
Cancellations	We prefer substitutions to cancellations, but if there are any cancellations the information should be sent to the LEO and also to the NEO.
Visas	Every student is responsible for getting his/her own visa! - Invitation letter will be provided upon request. Please, if you need it, ASK FOR IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! - Official hospital department’s invitation letters should be required at least 4 weeks before the beginning of the clerkship. - We need to know about any other necessary documents and where to send them – Please ASK FOR THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE Please contact your NEO, so we can help you.
