  Professional Exchange : Exchange Conditions of SwiMSA(Switzerland)
Level of studies Clinical students in their last 2 years of studies
Type of Clerkship - Clerkships are possible during the whole year
- LEOs will contact the student directly; if the student doesn’t reply, THE CLERKSHIP MAY BE CANCELLED, if the LEO doesn't get the document from the student in time the clerkship may be cancelled!
- Students MAY NOT ALWAYS be placed in one of the discipline they choose
- July, August, September:clerkships are HARD TO ORGANIZE so there is a chance that nothing can be found, in which case the clerkship will be postponed
Languages - We don't accept english speaking student except for some countries (ask your NEO about it. The places for the english speaking student is ONLY in BASEL, in paediatrics or opthalmology.)
- The hospitals require the student to be able to speak well either: GERMAN (for Basel, Bern and Zurich) or FRENCH (for Geneva and Lausanne)
- If the student’s knowledge of German or French is deemed not enough, the clerkship CAN BE CANCELLED
Duration of Clerkship 1 unit = 4 weeks (depending on the number of units taken,the student may stay more than 4)
Working Conditions - Clerkships start on the 1ST DAY OF THE MONTH and end on the LAST DAY OF THE MONTH (no intermediate begin or end)
- WORKING TIME: 8 hours per day, 5 days/week (can vary according to the hospital and department)
- Week-end and night shifts may be required by the department
- If the student doesn’t agree with the working time, his/her AF won’t be accepted
- If the student doesn’t respect the working time, the clerkship can be cancelled, INCLUDING BOARD and LODGING
- The student cannot contact the department to arrange for a place himself/herself

Bern:
- Language: German
- Period: special (changes from year to year)
- Required material: stethoscope

Geneva:
- Available: www.hug-ge.ch, click on “spécialités médicales”
- Special: Emergency only if French perfectly spoken
- Language: French
- Period: every month of the year, within possibilities
- Required material: stethoscope and reflex hammer

Lausanne:
- Not available: emergency medicine, obstetrics
- Language: French
- Period: every month of the year, within possibilities
- Require material: stethoscope, reflex hammer

Zurich:
- Not available: pediatrics, rare subspecialties
- Special: Gynecology recommended
- Language: German
- Period: every month of the year, within possibilities
- Required material: stethoscope, reflex hammer

Application documents & deadline e-AF deadlines:
- July, August and September: 6 months in advance. We need the document on a CD, on a .pdf form
- Rest of the year: 4 months in advance

Application documents:
- copy of the passport
- CV (in french or german)
- Motivation letter (french or german)
- Diplomas and exams results
- Insurance (ex for european students: EU health insurance)
- Inscription certificate, recommendation letter from the dean
- MRSA screening
- Vaccine: HBV, tetanus, diphteria, tuberculin test

Insurance - Health insurance: mandatory for the chosen month
- Travel Insurance: mandatory
Pocket Money Depends on: hospital, board, respect of working conditions, any material damages caused
Board & Lodging Board:
200.- to 300.- will be given at the student at the end of the clerkship (in Swiss francs NOT IN EURO!). This remunaration is not enough for 3 meal/day for 1 month.

Lodging:
In an apartment, student's house or at the hospital depending of the LC
Social Program Summer months:
- social program organized centrally: all the incoming students have the same program on the same day
- the student will receive further details during/before his/her clerkship

Rest of the year:
- depending on the LC and LEOs availability
- the student will have to organize most of his/her free time him/herself
Substitutions NOT POSSIBLE, the student shouldn't buy his/her plane ticket before having the CA.
Cancellations - Substitutions: see entry above
- No money will be refunded to the student
- If problems arise (refund request from the hospital,…), the student has is reliable for them
- The student can be CHARGED with the FULL COSTS of the clerkship, when he/she cancels too late or during the clerkship

- if a student doesn't fulfill the conditions during the internship such as not speaking the language, being late a lot of times, not going to the hospital the 4 weeks he WON'T receive the certificate!
Visas - ALL the non-european students need a WORKING VISA
- Ask your NEO for an invitation letter
Special remarks - we need the e-AF, as paper AF may be easily forgotten
- It is not allowed to host friends or family during the clerkship
- The student will be held responsible for any material damage he/she causes
- The student cannot change LC once he/she has been placed
