| Professional Exchange : Exchange Conditions of IFMSA-Spain(Spain) | |
| Level of studies | Students must have started CLINICAL courses in order to apply for a clerkship. |
| Type of Clerkship | Clinical clerkships. |
| Languages | English, Spanish (preferably). For Psychiatry it is compulsory to speak Spanish as mother tongue. |
| Duration of Clerkship | 1 month. CALENDAR MONTH periods only, with the exception of Malaga (15-15).Check periods. |
| Working Conditions | Mainly 6 hours a day from Monday to Friday.
It depends on the department - doctor rules. |
| Disciplines | Mainly all departments are accepted.
Students should clearly specify in their AFs what course they have undertaken as to be placed in the required department |
| Periods & Towns | The whole year:
LC of Valladolid which includes Segovia, Soria, Miranda de Ebro and Palencia LC of Zaragoza, LC of Alcala (The hospital is in a city located nearby called Guadalajara) LC of Santiago de Compostela (which needs a special paper) Summer months (July, August and September): Albacete (July) Alicante (July) Bilbao (August) Cadiz (July, August and September) Cordoba (July,August and September) Granada (July, August and September) Madrid Complutense (July and August) Madrid Autonoma (July and August) Malaga (from July 15th to August 14th; and from August 15th to September 14th), Murcia (July and August) Oviedo (July, August, and September) Salamanca (July and August) Santander (July, August and September) Sevilla (July only) Tenerife (August) Valencia (July and August) Segovia, Palencia and Medina del Campo (they belong to the LC of Valladolid) The LC of Madrid-Alcala; can sometimes host some people in the summer months (July and August) but it is not possible to do so every year. Madrid-Complutense and Madrid-Autonoma might be available for exchanges in winter months under special requests, but they cannot take people every winter. It is very possible you will get accepted in a city you did not apply for since we do not guarantee any of the cities you have chosen. We try our best to place you matching your preferences but this does not always happen. And remember: Madrid and Valencia are big cities but NOT EVERYONE CAN GO THERE. There are other beautiful cities to be explored, so remember to fill in the three different cities!!! |
| Application documents & deadline | In July, August and September all our faculties have summer holidays, therefore it is absolutely necessary for us to have the CAs for the period of August and September by the end of June.
We need to have the AF, for JULY. AUGUST & SEPTEMBER at the MM, and NOT later. WE need all the documents on paper and electronically through e-ex!! Applicants for the rest of the year, three months in advance. We’ll not accept any responsibilities about students arriving out of the accepted period. The LC has the right to cancel any clerkship when the CC is sent out of the deadlines. The email is the communication channel with the student, is necessary that the email is an updated one. The student has to enclose in the AF: 1. Mottivation Letters (ML): should go attached to the eAF so we do not need them on paper BUT they must be correctly written 2. ID/passport pictures (pictures form the summer holidays are NOT accepted) 3. Curriculum Vitae (CV): to be attached to the eAF and where students should clearly state which courses they have undertaken 4. Students are required to fill in 3 DIFFERENT CITIES (mind not LCs, DIFFERENT CITIES) and 4 DIFFERENT HOPSPITAL DEPARTMENTS. If they only fill in one, they could be placed anywhere. 5. IFMSA Rules Form signed + the health insurance proof 6. Passport/ID card copy 7. Pharm-Free document: this a special paper that has to be attached to the AF. It is a non-binding, informative paper explaining that the students are about to enjoy an exchange in a Pharm-Free NMO. It can be found here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OGNR05O0 8. Remind your students that in order to get the certificate, the SCOPE AQ Kit will have to be filled in to prove at least 80% of the exchange has been completed. *If the CC has been sent especifying a date of arrival and five days before beginning the clerkship the students changes the clerkship´s duration or tries to change its conditions, that clerkship will be inmediatly |

| Insurance | Obligatory for EVERY student.
It could be asked to be shown upon arrival and the clerkship can and will be cancelled if the LEO does not see it when required |

| Board & Lodging | Board is free (under bilateral basis) and given mainly by the Hospitals, but this could vary depending upon the LC.We usually provide give 1 or 2 meals per day.
Lodging is free provided by Hospitals, Dormitories and rented apartments, if it is a bilateral exchange. Maby LCs have contracts with the students dorms to accommodate their incomings. This usually means strict lodging conditions; so if the students are thinking about smuggling extra-someone/something in, tell them to NOT do it under the risk of getting their exchange cancelled. |
| Social Program | It depends on the city and local committee; usually, it is offered a welcome party, evening parties, tourist tours around the city and surroundings, giving information about important-interesting places to go or visit, as villages festivals and many other attractions, depending on the places. |
| Substitutions | Same sex, period and department.
Students coming to substitute another student will have to bring the original CA, in case there is no time to send a new one, plus a Letter of Substitution with the signature of the NEO or LEO. |
| Cancellations | We prefer substitutions rather than cancellations, but if they have to be made, we need to know 3 weeks in advance.
This is really important! |
| Visas | Please inform us ahead about the visa requirements for your country and your students, so we can contact the embassies as soon as possible. |
| Special remarks | If you apply for Malaga, make sure you apply for other cities specifying which calendar month you prefer, since we can not accept everyone in Malaga. If you don/t write that down in the AF, then we will place you in the month that is best for us.
No student will have board and lodging out of the dates specified in the CA. Clerkships may be automatically cancelled when the Local Committee receives claims from the hospital or the dormitories. If a few students want to stay together: - They have to write it down in the AF. - We can not place more than two people together in the same city. We usually respect your choices, but not always is possible Companies, pets, and any other kind of friends are NOT welcome, specially when you have not warned the LEOs about this companions. It is hard to find a cheap room in Spain in the summertime and some residences are very strict about the dorm condidtions so PLEASE, so NOT bring any unexpected "presents" or you could be kicked out. Period of the Clerkship: MALAGA is an EXCEPTION. Check Periods&Towns. LC can cancel the clerkship if 75% of practices are not done. ALL LCs REQUIRE AT LEAST 80% OF THE PRACTICES COMPLETED!! In Summer months we are usually full so make sure you send your AF as soon as possible. If you apply for Valladolid in December or in Easter, boarding and lodging last only for 3 weeks. Students MUST come the 1st of December and they'll have to leave the 21st. If the 3 weeks are not completed the LC reserves the right of not giving the certificate. Only medical students are acceptes (this does not include Odontology students). The CC must be sent at least 4 weeks before the beggining of the clerkship, if not the LC will cancel the exchange. |
