|Professional Exchange : Exchange Conditions of IFMSA Brazil(Brazil)|
|Level of studies||Clinical Experience in the requested fields is mandatory.|
|Type of Clerkship||Clinical and Surgical Fields only, no Pre-Clinical fields available.
Bilateral Exchanges only.
Please ask your NEO before applying to certain position.
|Languages||English is mandatory. Basic Portuguese or Spanish are advised (but not mandatory) for clinical fields.|
|Duration of Clerkship||04 weeks|
|Working Conditions||Monday to Friday, 20-40h/week, depending on both each medical school and department's regulations. Most schools demand a minimum 75% frequency.
The student must follow the local regulations in order to receive the certificate by the end of the clerkship.
Some incomings are advised to/invited to join night shifts ( be on call) with both students and residents, but this is not mandatory, otherwise.
The students must be aware that proper clothing is utterly necessary for the hospital-based activities. Our national biosecurity standards demand: trousers, closed shoes, long-sleeved white coat, no earrings and accessories, long hair must be tied up. Bring your own white coat and stethoscope

|Disciplines||Mostly all clinical or surgical disciplines are possible.
Fields available on each medical school vary. The studentís placement will depend on it, as well as on local demands (for instance, some schools only accept students already in their last 2 years of study)
We advise that psychiatry applicants have an intermediate to high level of Portuguese.
IT IS MANDATORY THAT STUDENTS MUST ALREADY HAVE STUDIED THE FIELD THAT THEY ARE APPLYING FOR, SHOWING PROOF THEY'VE PASSED THE GIVEN OPTION.
|Periods & Towns||All year long. Exchanges will be fashioned in a time frame from the 1st to the 30th of a given month (CALENDAR MONTHS, EXCLUSIVELY!)
We have limited spots for July and August, so please submit your Application Form and documents on schedule.

IMPORTANT: We will do our best to place you in the requested city , however we apologize in advance whether one of your 3 choices won't be accepted. Since most Incoming students ask the same towns it is extremely hard to manage all requests. Still, we guarantee that an exchange at any of our cities will be a joyful and unforgettable experience!

|Application documents & deadline||DEADLINE: Application Form and documents (except for health insurance) must be submited 5 months prior to exchange start date. Health insurance must be submitted 1 month prior to exchange start date. Exceptions should be directly negotiated with the NEO Incoming.
ALL DIGITAL! Should be uploaded to the database and sent along with the Application Form. (please discriminate file on the title)
Health Insurance must be addressed to the NEO Incoming email. (Please put NMO, AF number and student's name on the email title)
Paper versions must be handed to the hosting-LC LEO upon arrival.
If any paper document is needed in advance, the student and responsible NEO will be communicated.

|Insurance||Health insurance is ABSOLUTELY COMPULSORY and must be sent until 1 month prior to exchange start date.
Be advised that students not carrying their health Insurance Certificate will have their clerkships canceled.
Some medical schools demand malpractice insurance, please get in touch with your contact person for further information as soon as your Card of Acceptance arrives.
|Pocket Money||None, at any chance.|
|Board & Lodging||Free on bilateral agreements.
The exchange student shall be placed in a student's family house and sometimes in a student hostel.
The student will have at least one free meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner) per day (served by the school or hosting student), more than that will depend on each Local Committee.
Most of the times, it is NOT possible to place couples (two exchange students using bilateral contracts w/ IFMSA-Brazil) in the same house, or even in the same city.
If a couple(two exchange students using bilateral contracts w/ IFMSA-Brazil) want to rent a place to stay together, they must do it on their own - in this case IFMSA-Brazil won't pay neither for the board nor the
|Social Program||Offered. Please check your options with your hosting Local Committee.|
Only possible for the same period, department, sex and city.
All substitutions must be arranged by both NEO(s), and the new AF must arrive at least 4 weeks before the beginning of the clerkship.
|Cancellations||It must be e-mailed to the NEO(s) right away.|
|Visas||IT IS THE STUDENT'S ENTIRE RESPONSIBILITY TO SET IT UP THE DETAILS FOR ISSUANCE OF A BRAZILIAN VISA AT A GIVEN EMBASSY.
PLEASE ASK FOR A TOURIST/ VISITOR'S VISA, EXCLUSIVELY.
A personal Invitation Letter can be sent upon request.
|Special remarks||1) This is an utterly an individual experience, everything is arranged in an individual basis, so donīt expect special arrangements when the exchange students apply either as a couple or friends.
2) Board and lodging out of the period of the clerkship is not possible.
3) We cannot provide Board and Lodging to friends, fiances, family or pets.
4) IFMSA-Brazil reserves the right to cancel any clerkship if the Board receives any complaints of misconduct or unethical practice either in the hospital or in the lodging place.
5) Unilateral fee cost: 280 Euros, to be paid upon arrival on the first week of the clerkship to the responsible LEO. Official signed receipt will be handed to the student.
6) Academic Quality status: active. Please contact your NEO and ask for your booklet.
7) Is recommended for the student to have yellow fever and hepatitis (A and B) immunization schemes up to date. Please contact your hosting Local Committee for further information.
9) We advise the student NOT to buy tickets before receiving the Card of Acceptance, as location might be rearranged before official confirmation. Otherwise, itís the studentís entire responsibility.
10) The students MUST have the card of confirmation sent on time, in order to guarantee their spot in the medical school and hosting house.
THE STUDENT WHO DOESNíT COMPLY WITH THESE EXCHANGE CONDITIONS CAN HAVE THE EXCHANGE CANCELLED.
