  Professional Exchange : Exchange Conditions of TaMSA-Tatarstan(Tatarstan-Russia)
Level of studies Medical students who have completed at least 3 years of medical studies
Type of Clerkship Clinical clerkships.

Preclinical clerkships are possible under special request, but need to be discussed prior to sending the Application Form.
Languages English and Russian
Duration of Clerkship 4 weeks. We accept CALENDAR MONTH periods only!
Working Conditions Student are expected to be at the hospital 6-7 hours a day, Monday to Friday.
Students need to bring their own white gown, surgical costume (scrubs), clean shoes for hospital and stethoscope.
A special medical records form needs to be completed and sent to the NEO in order to allow students to attend hospitals.
Students need to attend the hospital at least 80% of the time in order to receive the certificate.
Usually there will be several students in one department attached to one doctor. Active and enthusiastic students will have more opportunities for hands-on experience.
Disciplines Almost all medical fields are available. Psychiatry is not available because this field requires knowledge of Russian language.
Changes of available departments may occur throughout the year. Students will be informed about the availability of departments in advance.
All applying students must fill in all 4 optional departments. We will try to place all students in the departments of 1st choice, but that is not always possible. A good motivation letter is very important for being accepted in the desired department.
Periods & Towns We can accept students only for one calendar month. All months are available EXCEPT January, May, June and December (exams period).

Please note that 90% of the students will be placed in Kazan because much more departments are available.
Application documents & deadline We would like to emphasize that it is very important for all incoming students to send all the documents listed below. If some documents will be missing the exchange might be CANCELLED!
The documents should include:
1. Two copies of the Application Form (AF) printed on paper.
2. Three passport size photos
3. One photo 10x15 cm – important to meet students at the airport or train station.
4. Copy of passport – this is MOST IMPORTANT. Please make sure that the student’s passport is valid at least 6 months after the planned departure from Tatarstan, Russia. On the passport copy the following information should be CLEARLY seen: the name, passport number, date of birth, date of passport issue, and date of passport expiration.
5. Four motivation letters. Motivation letters need to be written for every department explaining why the student is willing to do the clerkship in that department. Short and non-informative motivation letters will be returned to the student.
6. A document from the University stating which year of Medicine the students has completed (enrollment letter in English).
7. A Medical records form (including vaccination history) – Very important!!! – a special form will be sent to the applicants by email. Filled in forms need to be sent back to the NEO 4 weeks prior to the start of the exchange.
8. English language certificate.
9. An additional document – will be sent to the NEOs by email
Deadline for documents of students coming in July, August and September: March Meeting

All documents must be presented in English.

Insurance All students must have medical insurance for the exchange period. The student will be asked to show the insurance upon arrival in order to obtain registration.
Pocket Money For students who will not have meals provided will receive pocket money equivalent
Board & Lodging Lodging:
Accommodation will be arranged in student hostels, student apartments or in host families.

Boarding:
We provide students with 1 meal per day. If the meal is not provided at the place of accommodation the student will receive an equivalent amount of pocket money.

Boarding and lodging is free on bilateral agreement.

Unilateral students will be asked to pay 300 EURO for the exchange.
Social Program Social program is available only during the summer months (July and August). Usually we offer social activities during the weekends – tours in Kazan, trips to interesting historical places, boat trips etc. All transportation and other extra costs will be at the student’s own expense.
There will be some social program during the rest of the year, however as all our students are studying at the Universities please don’t expect social program every weekend.

Substitutions We must be informed about the substitution at least 10 weeks prior to the start of the exchange. If substitution occurs – the documents of the new student (especially scan of his/her passport) need to be sent to us IMMEDIATELY! Keep in mind that the invitation letter takes 32-36 days to be issued by the Ministry. If we are informed late we will not be able to make a substitution for the same dates and the exchange will have to be cancelled or delayed.
Cancellations Please inform us about the cancellation at least one month before the start of the exchange.
Visas IMPORTANT!!!
Students from all countries need visas to enter Russia. In order to get the visa the students will have to apply to the Russian embassy in the country of residence.
Remember: a student can only get a Russian visa for the dates stated in the Official Invitation Letter. In order to stay longer after the clerkship or arrive earlier for tourist purposes you will need to apply for a second (tourist) visa which is very expensive.
Please DO NOT buy tickets to Russia before you receive your CA!!!
Special remarks IMPORTANT - INVITATION LETTERS!

Invitation letters for students will be issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. In order to do this it is very important for us to have a copy of passport which meets all the requirements stated above. The time needed for the invitation letter to be issued is 32-36 days.
We advise all students to visit the web site of their local Russian Embassy to check the rules and regulations before applying for the visa.

The NEO must be notified concerning any changes that might occur before or during the exchange.
