  Professional Exchange : Exchange Conditions of IFMSA Peru(Peru)
Level of studies Students must have taken the course they are applying for.
Type of Clerkship Clinical Clerkships
Languages *Basic Spanish is required. Only some specialties accept ENGLISH SPEAKING students (Surgery).

*Intermediate level of SPANISH is REQUIRED (MANDATORY!) if the student chooses a Internal Medicine deparment, because the student will have direct contact with patients so they HAVE TO SPEAK SPANISH!!!!
* High level of SPANISH if the student choose Psychiatry.
Duration of Clerkship 4 weeks
Working Conditions - Elective rotation type.
- Working hours depend on the student and the department. Normally they are about 7/8 hours per day, 5 days a week. Exchange students work under the same conditions as Peruvian students, and must obey all the regulations of the hospital and the counselor. If the exchange student does not, he/she will be excluded from the clerkship.Students must have a 75% of assistance in order to get the certificate.
Disciplines We accept applications on all specialties, especially Internal Medicine (includes nephrology, cardiology, pulmonary, gastroenterology, endocrinology) ;Tropical medicine*; Surgery (general surgery, plastic surgery); Pediatrics; Emergency Medicine, Gynecology and Psychiatry. Other specialties are available but not guaranteed through the whole year.

* You can do your exchange in the famous Institute of Tropical Medicine (The best of Peru) -Alexander Vond Humbolt- that is located in the "Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia" in Lima.

* A peruvian faculty medicine with International Acreditation by "Consejo internacional de Acreditacion de Facultades de Medicina" (CIDAFAM) - http://www.cidafam.org.ar/

- If you want to choose Lima.You have 4 options! Please choose LIMA (SOCEMCH) or LIMA (SOCIEM-USMP) or LIMA (SCIEM-UCSUR) or Lima (SCSF), so you are more than wellcome to our beautifull capital.

- The same if you want to go to Trujillo, please put the LC (UNT or UPAO), the same with Arequipa LC (CIEM or SOCIEMA-UNSA)

The periods are avaible all over the year depending on the LC.
Application documents & deadline AF Deadline: 6 months in advance

Please, also enclose a CD containing scanned copies of the following documents:

1. Spanish Language certificate.
2. Three passport size photos.
3. Motivation letter*
4. Presentation letter from the dean of his/her Faculty stating that he/she is a student from their University and is eligible to do a rotation outside their school.
5. Official study record from university showing all courses studied.
6. Copy of the insurance.
7. Two first pages of the passport (IMPORTANT!)

On the E-EX System:
a) Electronic AF, 6 months in advance
b) Electronic Motivation Letter attached.*
- Please also sent by airmail or at the August Meeting the rest of the document stated above (point 1 to 7)

* In the motivation letter, an the student should: Introduce him/herself, tell about his/her medical education (system organization, which subjects have taken), previous practical experience, why he/she wants to do a clerkship in Peru, what he/she would like to learn/obtain and to do during the clerkship, his/her personal interests). This letter will be given to the doctor you will be rotating with prior to your arrival.

Insurance All students must have insurance. Liability insurance is not necessary
Pocket Money -
Board & Lodging - Board is free, under bilateral contracts and given mainly in the university cafeteria(1 meal per day)
- Lodging is free, provided by student's families (under bilateral contracts only), due to this the students must follow the families home norms, if we receive any complain about the student behavior, the exchange(clerkship, board and lodging) will be canceled and the student will be sent home earlier.
Social Program - Local exchange committee will organise excursions, sight-seeing, grill parties, restaurants, discotheques, bars, trips to the beach, lakes, mountains, etc.

- Local exchange committee will offer a welcome party/dinner and tourist tours around the city and surroundings.
Substitutions - Same sex, person and department.
- Substitutions can be arranged between NEO's by email communications.
Cancellations We need to KNOW cancellations at least THREE weeks before clerkship starts and we need an apology letter from the student addressed to the assigned Doctor.
Visas It is not necessary for citizens of West Europe, Asia, South or North America, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa, to have a visa to enter Peru, only a valid passport. A visa is required for visitors from India and Fiji. It is recommended to obtain a tourist visa.

Special remarks - Not board, lodging or food is given out of the specified in the AF.
- Clerkship may automatically be cancelled when NEO or assistants receive claims from hospital, University or lodging.
- As we offer lodging in the houses of the student's families, is hard for us to place people together, we can accept students from the same place on the same month, and the same city but lodging won't be the same.
- For the same reason, we do not accept friends, family or pets
- All students should bring three passport size photos, a white coat and have their own stethoscope.
