Type of Clerkship Clinical
Languages We recommend medical departments for francophone students and surgery departments for students who don’t speak French.

We recommend at least level B1 of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) in English or in French.

LCs that accept ONLY french speaking students : Besancon, Bobigny, Marseille, Montpellier, Paris Ouest, Paris 7 and Rouen.
Duration of Clerkship 4 weeks, 1AF=4weeks
Working Conditions 5 to 7 hours a day from monday to friday, depending on the LC
Some LC ask you to come on Saturday
Shorter attendance without asking for permission to the Local Exchange Officers or National Exchange Officer will result in not receiving IFMSA certificate and can even lead to expulsion.
If you want to stay 3 weeks instead of 4, write it down in your AF and notify the NEO.
Disciplines We try to place students in one of their desired departments but there's no guarantee.

*BESANCON : for english speaking students: intensive care and vascular surgery
*PARIS 7 : all fields for French speaking students, limited for English speaking students
*PARIS OUEST : Internal Medecine, Surgery, Infectious Disease, Radiology, Hematology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Rhumatology
*LILLE : all fields except emergency
*POITIERS: all fields except psychiatry

Please note that plastic surgery is only available in Besancon, Creteil, Lille, and Toulouse.
Periods & Towns We accept student during the whole year EXCEPT JANUARY and FEBRUARY and very limited places in December.
We only accept incomings from 1st until the last day of the month.
It is not always possible to place students in the city they want, we place students according to the date of reception of the AF.

*ANGERS : July and August only (around 20 places)
*BESANCON : all year long except December, January, February, May and June (around 9 places)
*BOBIGNY : July, August, September, October, March, April (around 7 places)
*CLERMONT FERRAND : all year long (except in January and May) (around 20 places)
*CRETEIL (near Paris): all year long, except July, and limited in August
*GRENOBLE : all year long except January, February, March, May, August and December
*LILLE : Only during : March, April, July, August, October and November (a lot of places)
*MARSEILLE : all year long except january, may and june (all departments apart from accident and emergency, intensive care and reanimation)
*MONTPELLIER : July to September included
*NANCY : All year long
*NANTES
*PARIS 7: all year long except December, January, May and June (around 20 places)
*PARIS OUEST: All year long except : December, January, May and June. (around 14 places)
*POITIERS : All year long except January and May
*RENNES: Not available for incomings
*ROUEN : limited number of places in summer
*ST ETIENNE : all year long except January and May (30 places)
*TOURS : all year long except January, February, May and June
*TOULOUSE : all year long apart from January and May, (around 18 places)

Application documents & deadline We require the following documents scanned as .jpeg or .pdf.
Students will have to show originals upon arrival.

*Passport or ID card
*Language certificate English/French
*1 Motivation letter per department (in French if you speak French otherwise we’ll consider you don’t)
*Curriculum vitae
*Valid health insurance attestation in English or French
*Immunisation titers (see special remarks)

*Mission paper: Compulsory in Bobigny, Lille, and TOULOUSE ONLY, document signed and stamped by the dean stating the student is sent by the dean of his faculty to undergo a clerkship in the X faculty, department X , from X to X (date). If the student doesn't have the paper, the clerkship will be cancelled.

DEADLINES : March meeting for students coming in July and August, at least 3 months in advance for other months.

LC Particularities :
*BOBIGNY: Outgoings from France need a letter of confirmation from the department where they are placed 2 months before the start of the clerkship.

*CLERMONT FERRAND : the outgoings from France need a letter of confirmation from the department where they are placed 2 months before the start of the clerkship.

*CRETEIL : A medical certificate of aptitude to practice in a hospital which stipulates that you have no infectious disease and all your vaccinations are updated.

*POITIERS : a fresh medical certificate (signed by a doctor not by the student!!) to prove the student has physical and intellectual capacities for an hospital clerkship must be sent 6 weeks in advance.

If you don’t speak French, wait for your CA, contact the LEO or your contact person AT LEAST 6 WEEKS IN ADVANCE and they’ll do it for you.
Pocket Money We don't provide pocket money.
Board & Lodging Lodging is free on bilateral exchange.
For boarding, it depends on the LC.
350ˆ per month for unilateral exchange.
Social Program Always in the welcoming periods.

*ST ETIENNE : none in February and April, and GREAT from June to September

*CLERMONT FERRAND: none in January and at the end of May

*POITIERS : none in July.

*TOULOUSE : in August only
Substitutions 2 weeks in advance minimum, same city, same department
Substitution form AND documents must be sent to the NEO-incomings by e-mail AT LEAST 2 weeks in advance.
Cancellations 4 weeks in advance
We might ask the student who canceled to send a letter of apologizes to the Head of department.
Visas Letter of invitation must be asked at least 10 weeks before the clerkship. Incoming students might need an « Attestation d’accueil » to get their visa. It costs 45euros. Any incoming who will need this document will have to pay 45euros to the LC upon arrival. Please request it at least 10 weeks before the beginning of the clerkship, because it sometimes takes 2 weeks to get it from the administration. VERY IMPORTANT : you won't need this form if you apply for a visa "visite de courte duree a caractere prive ou familial" AND if you say you're part of an "INTERCULTURAL EXCHANGE".
Special remarks *Compulsory vaccinations : hepatitis B, diphteria, tetanos, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella titers.
Student must be able to prove his/her vaccinal status IF asked upon arrival at the hospital.(contact the LEO for further informations)

*CC : Please, mention precisely your time and place of arrival. CC must be sent 4 weeks prior to the beginning of your clerkship. If not, we will consider your clerkship cancelled.

*CERTIFICATE : You must attend at least 80% of the clerckship AND fill in the Evalutation Form online BEFORE you leave to get you certificate. LEOs will not send certificates by post afterwards.

*Incomings are not supposed to bring along relatives, boy or girlfriend, and pets.

* Please, try to anticipate and respect deadlines!
